Factors of power: How is democracy measured?
Most people were taught that democracy means ‘governed by the people’ in Latin. But what else? Democracy is a complex and brittle phenomenon that can also be rather subjective. At the same time, we know it’s also fundamental to our quality of life and our human rights to be respected.
For the upcoming general election in 2014, the Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company (UR) launched the educational website Factors of Power, Maktfaktorn, about democracy. So, what is democracy? And how is it measured? The website was aimed at upper secondary school teenagers, and especially those who were eligible to vote for the first time.
UR knows more about how to communicate with the younger generation than most, and early on decided to use motion graphics and infographics to get their message across.
Together, we produced four infographic educational videos straightening things out. Using infographics and motion graphics, we have made tricky concepts and connections more easily understood. See more from Maktfaktorn at www.ur.se/maktfaktorn.
